Tender Cities

SHANGHAI/BERLIN/LONDON/NEWYORK

2018-2020

This is a series in which the artist collects paper waste from various countries and creates sculptures in the shape of maps of those countries and cities. The paper waste represents fragments of the city. The sculptures, created by cutting and folding the waste with his own hands, appear in the city as guerrilla street art. However, naturally, they return to the city's trash after about a week due to city cleaning and the elements. After the process of the trash, fragments of the city, being transformed into sculptures and then disappearing into the city, all that remains are the time spent folding them and the memories of that time. It is the very embodiment of the evil scrap-and-build of the city, but as the maps (borders) crumble, they also seem to regain their natural shape.
